Company D

Based in Dublin, Ireland, Company D is a company of actors who have already trained extensively and are looking to challenge their abilities in a demanding professional format. The company was formed in September 2006 and produced its first play, Tonight We Kill God in December of that year. Company D seeks to explore the ideas of cutting edge theatre practitioners who sought to challenge the boundaries of conventional theatre practice and the limits of the Stage. In turn, the company attempts to challenge its own comfort zones in performance, dramatic structure and textual stricture and to come to new understandings of the primal power of the living stage.

Company D is primarily interested in new and emerging artists of the Stage. Although the actors in the company have had substantial training, they may not have had a great deal of professional experience at this stage in their journeys. Company D is a theatrical world designed for these new artists to test the limits of their ability without fear of risk. Company D actors are encouraged to revel in risk and push themselves without fear of needing to adhere to established or accepted acting conventions. These actors are invited to join the company on the grounds of two components, certain previous training and a willingness to commit completely to their chosen project. Industry reputation and renown are not considerations in the process of inviting actors into Company D.

Company D actors are required to form a self-discipline and personal work ethic that will stand to them in their long-term career. In this way they form a powerful ensemble that is evident in Company D productions.

The company also seeks to perform new work, and in its infancy is producing new works by the company director, David Scott. However, Company D is constantly seeking brave new work from emerging theatre writers and artists.
